Morganton Man Killed In Saturday Crash
A Burke County man was killed in a crash Saturday (October 7) in Iredell County. The deceased is 46-year-old Wesley Edward Mallory of Morganton.
Saturday at approximately 12:00 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to Interstate 40 West near Stamey Farm Road (Exit 146). A 2018 Ford Fiesta was traveling west on I-40, failed to adequately reduce speed, and collided with a 2018 International tractor-trailer that was stopped in the right lane due to traffic.
The driver of the Fiesta, Wesley Edward Mallory passed away as a result of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a Simpsonville, SC, resident, was not injured.
All occupants were restrained by seatbelts. The initial investigation does not indicate impairment to be a contributing factor. During the on-scene investigation, I-40 was closed in the area for approximately two hours. No charges will filed in this case.
