Morganton Man Jailed on Meth & Firearms Charges

42-year-old Charles Howard Ray III of Morganton has been arrested by Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell, or deliver methamphetamine, trafficking meth, maintaining a vehicle for drugs, possession of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon (two counts), driving while license revoked, displaying a fictitious tag, failure to register a vehicle with the state, and no insurance.

Just after midnight today (July 2), an Officer stopped a vehicle for displaying a fictitious registration plate. The driver, Charles Howard Ray III, was found to have a suspended license. Ray failed to notify Officers that he was in possession of a firearm; however, he was found to be in possession of a shotgun. A probable cause search yielded a total of 97.5 grams of meth, over 15 knives, a large metal sword, several glass pipes, a large quantity of plastic baggies, and two sets of scales.

Ray, who is out on pretrial release, has previously been charged in Burke County with trafficking meth, possession of meth, assault by pointing a gun, and obtaining property by false pretenses. He was placed on a 48-hour hold with a court date scheduled today in Morganton.
