Morganton Man Jailed for Assault on Officer

30-year-old Michael Joseph Stallings, Jr. of Morganton was arrested yesterday (June 18) by Officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety. He was charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, second-degree trespassing, damage to property, and resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer.

Stallings was arrested after Officers responded to an area near a fast-food restaurant on South Sterling Street in reference to a trespassing call. Officers found Stallings in the restaurant’s parking area. He had previously been banned from the business and was taken into custody for trespassing. As he was escorted to the patrol car, Stallings attempted to pull away and began to kick multiple Officers. He then damaged a patrol car. Stallings was placed in the rear seat where he continued to kick at the partition and windows.

Stallings, who was out on pretrial release, was jailed without bond. A court date was set for October 7.
