Morganton Man Indicted On Charge Of Failing To Report Change Of Address As Sex Offender
52-year-old Larry Shane Briggs of Normandy Drive in Morganton was arrested last Friday (February 10) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged on a true bill of indictment with felony counts of failure to report a change of address as a sex offender and failure to enroll/tampering with a device. He’s also charged as an habitual felon.
Briggs is on the North Carolina Sex Offender Registry as a result of a conviction in Burke County in February, 2007 for sexual battery. The offense was committed in August, 2006. Briggs did not receive prison time following the conviction, he was sentenced to two years probation.
According to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Briggs has previous convictions for sex offender registry violations in 2014, 2018, and 2021. He was also listed on the website as an absconder from probation/parole supervision as of earlier today (February 15).
Briggs was arrested shortly before 12 noon Friday and placed in the Burke County Jail under $200,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today. A Superior Court appearance is scheduled for March 13.
