Morganton Man Facing Numerous Charges Including Indictment On Animal Cruelty Count

57-year-old Zachary Aaron Roach of Pleasant View Loop in Morganton was arrested Tuesday (June 20) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged on a true bill of indictment with multiple counts. Roach is charged with felony cruelty to animals and is charged on three felony out-of-county warrants.

Roach was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday at his residence on Pleasant View Loop. According to the North Carolina Judicial Branch website, he faces numerous counts in Burke County along with the previously mentioned charges. Those additional charges include felony counts of first-degree burglary, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling or moving vehicle, and eleven counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Roach has multiple prior convictions dating back to 1983. He’s been convicted of various crimes in Burke, Avery and McDowell Counties. Those offenses include felony counts of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of schedule II controlled substance along with numerous traffic charges. His most recent listed conviction in North Carolina was in 2012 in McDowell County for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Following Tuesday’s arrest, Roach was brought to the Burke County Jail under a $20,000 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate in Burke County as of earlier today (June 23). A Superior Court appearance is scheduled for August 7 in Morganton.
