Suspected Meth Reportedly Found On Suspect At Jail, Drug Charges Filed

37-year-old Christopher Gregory Knight of West Fleming Drive in Morganton was arrested Tuesday (October 24) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession of schedule II controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in prison or jail along with a misdemeanor count of second-degree trespassing.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday, a Public Safety Officer responded to a trespassing call at an address on West Fleming Drive. When the officer arrived, they arrested the suspect, Christopher Knight, on the trespassing charge and transported him to the Burke County Jail on a 48-hour hold.

After leaving Knight in the custody of the jail staff, the officer was notified that the suspect had produced a condom containing a clear, crystal-like substance that was believed to be methamphetamine. This led to the drug charges being filed against Knight. Police records show the seizure of one gram of meth during the investigation.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Christopher Gregory Knight has multiple convictions listed dating back to 2004. All but one of the convictions were in Burke County, with the lone exception being in Caldwell County. Most of the charges were misdemeanors with the exception of a felony assault by strangulation conviction in December, 2018. Knight’s most recent conviction was in Burke County in September of this year for misdemeanor shoplifting.

Following Knight’s arrest Tuesday, he was confined in the Burke County Jail. He was being held under a 48-hour hold or until the first judge becomes available. A District Court appearance is scheduled Thursday (October 26).
