Morganton Man Charged With Having Drugs At Jail

52-year-old Jamie Lamont Ruffin of Air Park Drive in Morganton was arrested Wednesday (January 10) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of controlled substance on prison or jail premises.

Ruffin, who was already incarcerated at the Burke County Jail, was arrested shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ruffin was previously charged in Burke County with felony counts of possession of cocaine and larceny. A Superior Court date is scheduled for February 5 on those charges.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Jamie Lamont Ruffin has multiple convictions listed dating back to 1997. He’s been convicted of various felony and misdemeanor charges in Buncombe, Haywood, Pitt, and Durham Counties. Ruffin’s last conviction was in Pitt County in April, 2017.

As of earlier today (January 12), Ruffin remained in the Burke County Jail, he was being held under no bond. The next District Court date for the possession of controlled substance on prison or jail premises charge is February 1 in Morganton.
