Morganton Man Charged With Fleeing From Police, Violating Probation

30-year-old Jimmy Cody Stanfill of Jamestown Road in Morganton was arrested Monday (May 8) by Burke County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle along with multiple traffic counts including speeding, fail to heed light or siren, wrong way on a dual lane highway and reckless driving to endanger.

The North Carolina Judicial Branch website also shows that Stanfill is charged in Burke County with felony possession of methamphetamine, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, and felony probation violation out of county. Stanfill is on probation as a result of a conviction in Haywood County in January, 2022. He was convicted of felony possession with intent to sell schedule II controlled substance and received probation and an 18 month suspended sentence.

According to police reports, Stanfill was arrested shortly after 3 a.m. Monday on Lenoir Road in Morganton. He was brought to the Burke County Jail where he was incarcerated under a total bond of $32,000 secured. District Court dates are scheduled for this Thursday (May 11) and May 26. A Superior Court appearance is set for May 15.
