Morganton Man Charged With Fleeing From Police

31-year-old John Juan Jose of Valdese Avenue in Morganton was arrested Wednesday (March 20) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle along with misdemeanor counts of driving while impaired resist, delay and obstruct an officer, simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia along with traffic counts.

On Tuesday (March 19) at 11:40 p.m. a Public Safety Officer saw a 2019 Toyota Tacoma traveling east on West Union Street. The driver, identified as the suspect, John Juan Jose, reportedly failed to stop for a steady red light at the intersection of Sanford Drive and West Union Street, commonly known as the crossroads intersection.

Once the officer caught up to the truck, the driver attempted to lose them by pulling into the Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church located off West Union Street. The truck then went around the rear of the church making his way back onto West Union Street.

The driver then made a left turn into the Union Square Apartments where he still continued to drive recklessly through the parking lot of the apartments and made his way back onto Asheville Street. While on Asheville, the driver of the pick-up turned into the church parking lot of Asheville Street Baptist Church where he was taken into custody.

The vehicle that Jose was driving was seized. Jose was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail following the arrest under $10,000 secured bond. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (March 21)in Morganton.
