Morganton Man Charged With Firearm Offense Following Traffic Stop

36-year-old Samuel Rollie Kidd of Fox Street in Morganton was arrested last Thursday (March 16) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He was charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

Last Thursday at 8:40 p.m. a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop of a 2002 Infiniti I35 on Queen Street in Morganton. The officer stopped the vehicle because it did not have operational headlights. Contact was made with the driver of the vehicle, who identified himself as Samuel Kidd.

During the stop, the officer discovered that Kidd had an outstanding order for arrest for possession of a firearm by a felon. According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Kidd is listed as a felon as a result of a conviction in October, 2014 in Mecklenburg County for felony possession of schedule II controlled substance. He received probation and a suspended sentence.

There are no felony convictions listed for Kidd since the 2014 conviction in Mecklenburg County, he has misdemeanor convictions in Burke and Watauga Counties in 2014 and 2020 respectively. Following the arrest last week, Kidd was brought to the Burke County Jail under $5,000 secured bond. He is not listed as an inmate today (March 22). A Superior Court date is scheduled for April 10.
