Morganton Man Charged With Felony, Misdemeanor Drug Offenses Following Traffic Stop

36-year-old Robert Christopher Whisnant of Raintree Drive in Morganton was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked, and driving with no registration.

Last Thursday (December 7) at 5:42 p.m., a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a black 2006 Suzuki motorcycle without a registration plate. The motorcycle was stopped on Pete Brittain Road at Enola Road in Morganton. The officer was responding to a report of suspicious activity possibly involving drugs. After making contact with the driver, identified as Whisnant, the suspect was placed under arrest.

During the investigation, the officer seized 1.2 grams of methamphetamine. Whisnant was brought to the Burke County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today. His first appearance in District Court was scheduled last Friday (December 8). The next District Court date on the charges filed Thursday is set for this Friday (December 15) in Morganton.
