46-year-old Wayne Donta O’Neil of Lytle Drive in Morganton was arrested following an investigation by multiple agencies including the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. He’s charged with a federal probation violation.
According to a news release issued Monday (February 5), on January 31, 2024, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations and Narcotics Division, the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections – Special Operations and Intelligence Unit, and United States Marshals Service – Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, conducted a joint operation to locate and arrest an alleged federal felony probation absconder, Wayne Donta O’Neil.
O’Neil was believed to be in the jurisdiction of Burke County and was reported to be actively avoiding detection and evading law enforcement for some time. During this operation, information was obtained regarding the possible whereabouts of O’Neil at an address on Lytle Drive in Morganton. Investigators and officers arrived at the address and O’Neil was apprehended without incident.
O’Neil was transported to the McDowell County Jail for Federal Housing of Inmates. The operation was a multi-agency collaborative endeavor conducted in an effort to apprehend area federal felony probation and parole absconders.
