Morganton Man Charged With Drug Offenses Following Search At Residence

40-year-old James Drew Ballard of Smoke Rise Drive in Morganton was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell, and deliver schedule II controlled substance and possession of schedule II controlled substance. Ballard is also charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and probation violation.

On June 20 at approximately 2:15 p.m., Morganton Public Safety assisted Probation & Parole with a search at a home on Smoke Rise Drive in Morganton. Drugs and paraphernalia were found in Ballard’s bedroom.

Ballard is on probation as a result of a conviction in January of this year for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He received probation and a suspended sentence.

During the investigation, officers seized 5.9 grams of methamphetamine and half a dosage unit of Xanax. Ballard was brought to the Burke County Jail under $10,000 bond. A District Court date is set for July 12.
