32-year-old Christopher Dale Street of Hopewell Road in Morganton was arrested Tuesday (April 25) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with a felony count of failure to appear on a felony along with misdemeanor counts of simple possession of schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 westbound of a 2004 Chevy Silverado that was hauling a trailer with no registration plate. Police reports say the vehicle’s brakes were also smoking and a chain had become disconnected and was hitting the asphalt and creating sparks.

The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Christopher Street. He was placed under arrest on outstanding orders for arrest from Catawba and Lincoln Counties and charged with the drug offenses from Burke County. The charges Street faces in Catawba County include fraud and misdemeanor fail to work after paid. He’s charged in Lincoln County with felony obtaining property by false pretense.

The officer reportedly seized .35 grams of marijuana during the Tuesday morning arrest. Street was brought to the Burke County Jail under $18,500 secured bond. He was not listed as an inmate in Burke County as of earlier today (April 27). The next Burke County District Court date is set for May 4.
