Morganton Man Arrested On Felony Drug Charges Following Sunday Traffic Stop

52-year-old Charles Edward Oneil of Bouchelle Street in Morganton was arrested Sunday (July 30) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of trafficking in cocaine and maintaining a vehicle, dwelling, or place for controlled substance. Oneil is also charged with misdemeanor resist, delay, or obstructing a public officer along with counts of fail to heed light or siren and driving while license revoked.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday a Public Safety Officer conducted a traffic stop on a dark green Jeep Wrangler. The officer came into contact with the driver, Oneil, and reportedly seized 47.7 grams of crack cocaine.

According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Charles Edward Oneil has multiple convictions. He’s been convicted in Burke and Catawba Counties of multiple offenses including drug counts, speeding to elude arrest, and armed robbery. His most recent conviction was in September, 2022 in Burke County for felony speeding to elude arrest.

Oneil was incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $50,000 secured bond. A District Court date was scheduled today (July 31) in Morganton.
