46-year-old David Castro Saldivar-Castro, who is listed as a homeless person from Morganton, was arrested Monday (January 8) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of a controlled substance in prison or jail and misdemeanor second-degree trespassing. A second suspect was arrested in this case and charged with a misdemeanor offense.
Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, a Public Safety Officer responded to a business on West Fleming Drive in Morganton after receiving a trespassing report. Once on the scene, the officer came into contact with the suspect, Saldivar-Castro. He was brought to the Burke County Jail on a trespassing charge and was to be placed in jail under a 48-hour hold since he was already out on bond after being charged previously. Saldivar-Castro was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon in Caldwell County, he has a court date Thursday (January 11) on that count.
While jail staff was searching Saldivar-Castro, a clear bag containing a crystal-like substance was found. That substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. Officers found a total of 1.4 grams of meth. Saldivar-Castro was placed in jail, where he remained as of earlier today (January 10) under $2,000 secured bond. District Court appearances are scheduled for Thursday and March 4.
