We have more details on a crash we reported on earlier on WHKY. Today (July 2) at approximately 7:30 a.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to a serious injury collision on Old Shelby Road near Oglesby Lane, in Catawba County.

A 2023 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling on Old Shelby Road and crossed the centerline before colliding head on with a 2017 Toyota Van. The driver of the Rav 4, a Hickory resident, was airlifted to CMC Main in Charlotte with serious injuries.
The driver of the Sienna, a Conover resident, was transported by EMS to UNC Health Blue Ridge, with minor injuries.

Three young children that were passengers in the Sienna Van were originally transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge with minor injuries. One child was then airlifted to Levine Children’s Hospital with more serious injuries. The initial investigation does not indicate speed or impairment as contributing factors to the collision. Charges are expected once the investigation is concluded.
