More details have been released in connection to a sex offense arrest in Burke County. 50-year-old Rodney Shawn Lane of Falls Street in Morganton was arrested Monday (July 24) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with two felony counts of first-degree sex offense with a child. The warrants are dated January 1, 1999. WHKY previously reported on Lane’s arrest Tuesday (July 25).

Lane was arrested following a 17-month investigation. In February 2022 Morganton Department of Public Safety received a report that Rodney Shawn Lane had sexually abused a male juvenile. During the course of the investigation more than a dozen interviews were conducted in three different states. The investigative efforts identified a second victim who also alleged sexual abuse by Lane. The crimes were allegedly committed between the years of 1998 to 2001 and both victims alleged numerous sexual assaults during that time.

On Monday, the warrants were issued on Lane for two counts of First Degree Sexual Offense. The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges may be pending. Lane was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. Monday at his residence after an officer responded to that location for a warrant service. Lane was brought to the Burke County Jail where he was confined under $200,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (July 26). A District Court appearance is scheduled Thursday (July 27).
