More Details in Arrest of Philadelphia Woman & One Additional Suspect

More details have been released in the arrest of 34-year-old Erica Marie Matyok of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, initially reported by WHKY yesterday (August 31). Arrested along with Matyok was 25-year-old Juquan Garner of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Matyok was charged with two counts each of fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and attempting to obtain property by false pretenses, along with single counts of felony conspiracy, identity theft, speeding, reckless driving to endanger, driving while license revoked, resisting a public officer, driving left of center, and failure to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light. Garner was charged with felony conspiracy to commit identify theft.

The two were arrested following a vehicle pursuit. Maiden Police were assisted by Catawba County Sheriff’s Officers, Lincolnton Police, and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Officers. Events leading to the arrests began as Maiden Police were contacted by Peoples Bank concerning a female attempting to commit identity theft at their Maiden branch.

Officers responded to the bank and saw an S.U.V. that had been described as the suspect vehicle. When Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled the scene. The vehicle traveled to Lincoln County where the car was immobilized. After a brief foot pursuit and a search of the area, Matyok and her passenger, Juquan Garner, were captured and arrested.

An investigation revealed that Matyok and Garner were using a stolen identity to obtain funds from bank accounts at Peoples Bank. Matyok was also wanted in Pennsylvania on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

Both suspects were jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility. Matyok was given a $75,000 secured bond, while Garner’s bond was set at $50,000, secured. They remained in jail as of this afternoon (September 1). Both were scheduled to appear in District Court yesterday in Newton. Matyok and Garner have additional Catawba County appearances coming up on September 21. Matyok has a court date in Lincoln County scheduled for September 12.
