Moravian Falls Man Dies after Accident Friday in Wilkes County

One person has been killed as the result of a traffic accident in Wilkes County last Friday (May 12). The deceased is 31-year-old Obed Ulises Garcia of Moravian Falls.

At about 12:50 a.m. Friday, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the accident near Cain Ridge Road. A southbound 2004 Nissan Maxima traveling on Moravian Falls Road ran off the right side of the road, then back onto the roadway where it crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the road, ran into a ditch, overturned, and came to rest on the passenger side.

Mr. Garcia, who was driving, was critically injured and was transported by E.M.S. to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. He passed away on May 15. Mr. Garcia was wearing a seatbelt, but was ejected from the vehicle.

The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision. During the on-scene investigation, Moravian Falls Road was closed in the area for an hour.
