HICKORY, N.C. (WHKY) — Hickory Crawdads right-hander Moises Morales has been named the Carolina League Pitcher of the Week following a dominant relief appearance in Saturday’s 7-0 victory over the Delmarva Shorebirds.

Working in relief, Morales earned the victory by retiring all 15 batters he faced over five perfect innings. The right-hander did not allow a hit or a walk while striking out five on his way to improving to 7-2 on the season. He threw just five innings but was credited with the win after relieving the starter and preserving Hickory’s shutout. His season ERA dropped to 3.69 following the outing.

Morales becomes the latest Crawdads player to earn weekly honors from the Carolina League, continuing an impressive season for Hickory’s pitching staff. His award follows last week’s Carolina League Pitcher of the Week selection by Aidan Deakins, giving the Crawdads back-to-back winners of the league’s top weekly pitching honor.

The Crawdads will look to carry that momentum into this week’s series as they continue their pursuit of a Carolina League postseason berth.
