39-year-old Michael Chad Ward of Barclay Lane in Mooresville has been arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers on 12 felony counts of identity theft.
Events leading to Ward’s arrest began on February 1 when the Sheriff’s Office took a report involving felony identity theft. The victim said multiple credit cards and utility service accounts had been opened using their name and using their personal identifying information. The incidents occurred from December 2019 through September 2020.
Detectives met with and interviewed the victim and located several witnesses. Multiple search warrants were executed. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the evidence gathered verifies that Michael Chad Ward is the suspect responsible for establishing all the fraudulent accounts.
Ward was arrested on July 31. He was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000, secured. He’ll appear in District Court on August 18.
Ward has a criminal history that includes seven counts of felony breaking & entering a motor vehicle, five counts of felony breaking & entering, misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor, 14 counts of felony breaking & entering a boat, felony larceny, felony financial card fraud, D.W.I., failure to heed or lights and siren, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor resisting a public officer, felony exploitation of a disabled or elderly person, and two counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods.
