23 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday (August 30) by Catawba County Public Health, raising the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 2,637, with 45 deaths. The 45th coronavirus-related death was reported Saturday. There were 13 people hospitalized Sunday, the same total as Saturday.
On Sunday, Burke County Public Health reported 10 COVID-19 cases since its last update Friday (August 28), increasing the total to 2,014, with 35 deaths. Burke County’s 35th coronavirus-associated fatality was reported Friday. There were seven people hospitalized in Burke County and at least 1,742 patients had recovered.
The Alexander County Health Department reported no new COVID-19 cases Sunday, leaving the total at 365, with two deaths. The most recent update issued by Caldwell County health officials showed 1,416 cases overall, with 20 deaths, and 20 people in the hospital.[Photo courtesy of tamarac.org]
