23 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday (August 16) in Catawba County, increasing the total to 2,324 since the start of the pandemic. There have been 33 coronavirus-associated deaths in Catawba County, and 16 patients were hospitalized Sunday, the same total as Saturday (August 15).
On Saturday, Catawba County Public Health announced a newly identified outbreak of COVID-19 at Brian Center East, where four residents tested positive for the virus. The facility is informing residents, their family members, and staff about the situation. This is the tenth congregate care facility coronavirus outbreak identified in Catawba County.
The Burke County COVID-19 dashboard today (August 17) showed 1,849 positive coronavirus cases, 14 more than the last update issued by the county on Saturday. The dashboard shows 30 deaths, seven hospitalizations, and at least 1,530 patients have recovered.
No new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed Sunday in Alexander County, keeping the total at 324, with two deaths. Caldwell County health officials did not release an update Saturday or Sunday, the most recent news release showed a total of 1,265 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, and the county reported its 17th coronavirus-associated death on Friday (August 14).[Photo Courtesy of ABC News Australia]
