19 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday (September 20) by Catawba County Public Health, increasing the overall total to 2,993, with 52 deaths. There were 16 people hospitalized with the coronavirus, two more than Saturday (September 19).
No new cases of the coronavirus were confirmed in Alexander County, leaving the total at 467, with four deaths. Each week, the Alexander County Health Department conducts drive-thru COVID-19 testing events on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and other days if demand arises. The most recent update from Burke County Public Health listed 2,275 positive cases of COVID-19 overall, with 41 deaths. There were five people hospitalized in Burke County. The 28th COVID-19-associated death was reported Friday (September 18) in Caldwell County. The patient, who was over the age of 75, was hospitalized and reported to have underlying conditions.
