At about 5:45 this morning (October 17), Alexander County Communications took a call in reference to a missing child. The call came from a residence on Deal Farm Lane in the Wittenburg Community.
The missing child was identified as two-year-old Mya Platt. Sheriff’s Officers and Taylorsville Police responded and began to search for the child. A number of additional units, including K-9 units and drone teams, responded to assist. A staging area and command post was established at the Dusty Ridge Wildlife Access. Various law enforcement boats, rescue boats, and a helicopter also joined in the search.
Members of the Alexander County Sheriff’s Boat Patrol spotted the child on the shoreline of Lake Hickory, approximately a quarter of a mile from her residence. The child was uninjured, but was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Alexander County Sheriff Chris Bowman expressed his appreciation to all the agencies and family and neighbors who assisted in the search.
