30-year-old Michael Shane Conley and 31-year-old Travis Toivo Walls, both of Monroe, Michigan, face charges from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. They’re both charged with felony counts of larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle and conspiracy to possess a stolen vehicle, breaking & entering and conspiracy to commit breaking & entering, misdemeanor larceny and conspiracy to commit misdemeanor larceny.

On August 15, 2023, members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team were on Whites Farm Road and noticed a man going through the trunk of a vehicle that appeared to be broken down. A deputy turned around to assist the driver but when they returned the man was no longer there. After further investigation, it was discovered that the license plate was stolen out of Ohio and the vehicle was stolen out of Michigan. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the man. The vehicle was then towed from the scene.

On August 16 at approximately 8:00 a.m. Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to an address on Ingram Road where a home had been broken into during the overnight hours, and a vehicle had been stolen. It was determined the subject crawled through a window in the garage to gain access to the two vehicles inside. Items were stolen out of a Ford Explorer and the other vehicle, a 2018 Toyota Tundra, was stolen.

The following day Iredell County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the stolen Toyota Tundra had been recovered in Camden County, Georgia. The suspects in the vehicle were allegedly stealing lottery tickets from a local gas station and scratching them for gas money. The St. Mary’s Police Department in Georgia found the vehicle and attempted to pull it over.

The St. Mary’s Police Department and Camden County Sheriff’s Office got into a short car chase with the vehicle before it was ended on I-95 near the Florida/Georgia line. The suspects fled on foot but were apprehended a short time later. Michael Shane Conley and Travis Toivo Walls were arrested by the Camden County Sheriff’s Office.

It was discovered at that point that the individuals had switched out the license plate on the stolen truck with a license plate stolen from a similar truck on Loraindale Drive in Statesville, approximately 1.5 miles from where the truck was stolen.

On August 21, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were able to secure warrants for the arrest of the two suspects along with an extradition order to bring them back to Iredell County.
