Man Tells Police Drugs Are In His Home, Arrested On Fentanyl Trafficking Charge
55-year-old Ronnie Lynn Benfield of Mount Mourne Loop in Mooresville was arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of trafficking in fentanyl, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
According to information released Wednesday (February 15), on February 5, 2023, an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy responded to an assist agency call involving a hit-and-run automobile accident the Mooresville Police Department was investigating. After arriving on the scene of the accident, Ronnie Lynn Benfield spoke with the officer about narcotics, stating he had some at his residence on Mount Mourne Loop.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies went to the residence, where a search was conducted. Upon searching the residence. Several chunks of a white substance covered in water were found in the kitchen sink. Tests of the substance were conducted, revealing it to be fentanyl. 128 ounces of Liquid Fentanyl was collected from the sink. The deputy also found a loaded Ruger nine-millimeter handgun in the residence.
Benfield was arrested and charged, then brought to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was jailed under $1,000,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (February 16). A District Court date is set for March 1.
