Man Sentenced to at Least 16 Years in Shooting Death of Child

26-year-old Douglas Mason Wilson will spend at least 16 years in prison following his guilty plea to a murder charge. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle in Catawba County Superior Court Tuesday. He was sentenced to 16-to-20 years. He has been in jail in Catawba County for just over three years.

Wilson shot and killed seven-year-old Zakylen Greylen Harris of Hickory, who was riding in his mother’s car on Tate Boulevard late at night in April of 2021. The shooting was the result of a road rage incident involving Wilson and Whitney Harris, who was the child’s mother.
