A Catawba County man was killed in a crash in Caldwell County. The deceased is 24-year-old Jonathon Irineo Betancourt of Conover.

On Tuesday (February 21) at approximately 5:05 p.m., the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to Valway Road near U.S. 321 in Caldwell County. A 2004 Hyundai Accent was traveling south on Valway Road, crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left, and collided with a tree.

The driver of the Hyundai, Jonathon Irineo Betancourt, passed away as a result of his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai was not restrained by a seatbelt. The preliminary investigation indicates speed as a contributing circumstance in the collision.
