Man Killed after Being Struck in Business Parking Lot [UPDATED 6 p.m.]

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 Friday night (July 29) in Iredell County. The deceased is 43-year-old Jason Wayne Bare of Harmony. The Highway Patrol responded at about 7:45 p.m.

The accident happened at River valley Ingredients, a division of Tyson Foods. The company is an industrial poultry by-product processing plant off of Sheffield Road, just east of Harmony. A terminal tractor-trailer, also known as a yard truck, was backing toward an unloading bay when it struck Mr. Bare. Mr. Bare passed away at the scene.

The driver and the deceased both worked at the plant. According to the Highway Patrol, no charges against the driver of the tractor-trailer are anticipated.

The Harmony and Sheffield-Calahaln fire departments responded to the scene, along with Iredell County E.M.S. and the North Iredell Rescue Squad.
