Man Injured in Watauga County Accident also Suffered Gunshot Wound
Just after 4 p.m. yesterday (April 13), a Watauga County Rescue unit returning from a call arrived at the scene of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Council Street and East King Street. Boone Police, the Boone Fire Department, and Watauga Medics arrived and found a four-door sedan that had crashed into a tree and rolled over onto its top.
As responders began treating the driver for apparent injuries caused by the crash, they found that the man was also suffering from a gunshot injury. The driver was transported by Highlands Emergency Air Rescue helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center.
Boone Police are actively investigating the incident. At this time, no foul play is suspected. Investigators were able to speak to the driver, who reported an accidental discharge of his firearm.
