Man Injured, Dog Killed When Struck By Vehicle

A pedestrian was injured and their dog was killed after being struck by a vehicle. The incident occurred on the 600 Block of North Green Street in Morganton early Friday evening (December 29). A news release was issued Saturday (December 30) by the Morganton Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 6 p.m. Friday, Public Safety Officers responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Officers found the man lying in the roadway, along with his deceased dog. The man had sustained  injuries requiring a helicopter to fly him to a trauma center in Asheville. 

According to the news release, a vehicle was traveling north on North Green Street and struck the pedestrian, along with his dog as they crossed the street. The man was reportedly wearing dark clothing and was not in a designated cross-walk area at the time of the collision. The dog was fatally wounded upon impact and the driver was not injured. 

A Good Samaritan assisted in giving the dog a proper burial. The crash was still under investigation at the time of the news release.
