Man Fatally Shot In Hickory, Information Sought

On Saturday (April 1) at approximately 7:00 a.m. the Hickory Police Department’s Communications Center received a 911 call from a woman who said that an unknown person had fired multiple rounds at her and her husband when they arrived at their 14th Avenue Drive SW home. Upon arrival, officers found the woman lying on the front steps to the residence with a minor wound to her knee.

Officers then found the woman’s husband, 46-year-old Prosper Nyatorwonu lying on the ground near the rear of the residence with gunshot injuries. Officers provided emergency aid to Nyatorwonu until Catawba County EMS arrived on scene. EMS transported Nyatorwonu to Frye Regional Medical Center where he was initially treated prior to being transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he died as a result of his injuries on Tuesday (April 4).

The victims were not able to provide any information about the shooter. Investigators are continuing their probe and additional details will be released as they become available.
