Man Drowns In Lake James

A Burke County man drowned over the weekend in Lake James. The deceased is 78-year-old Julius Kocsis of Morganton.

Saturday (August 8) at approximately 2:15 p.m., a possible drowning was reported to the Burke County Emergency Communications Center by a boater on Lake James, near the Linville Boat Access on N.C. 126. Emergency personnel responded to the area, interviewed witnesses, and began a search for the drowning victim.

Rescuers found the victim, Julius Kocsis, in approximately twelve feet of water just south of the Fonta Flora/Linville Access. The victim was on a recreational trip with his family at the time of incident. The cause of death is believed to be accidental pending confirmation from the Medical Examiner’s Office.
