Man Dies in Incident at Alexander County Boat Access

A Granite Falls man has died as the result of an accident at a boat access in Alexander County. The deceased is 44-year-old Michael Hedrick.

Just after 9:15 a.m. yesterday (February 25), Alexander County Communication took a 9-1-1 call regarding an individual trapped under a vehicle at the Dusty Ridge Boating Access dock on Dusty Ridge Access Road in Taylorsville. Alexander County Rescue, the Wittenberg Fire Department and the Alexander County Sheriff Office Deputies all responded to the scene.

Upon arrival Emergency Responders found Mr. Hedrick deceased. Alexander County Investigators, the N.C. State Highway Patrol, and N.C. Wildlife Officers responded to assist in the investigation. Investigators learned that Mr. Hedrick was having trouble with his vehicle’s transmission. As he attempted to determine the problem, the vehicle rolled backwards, trapping the victim underneath his vehicle.

The incident was accidental. There was no foul play. Alexander Co. Sheriff Chris Bowman expressed his condolences to the victim’s family.
