Man Charged With Malicious Conduct By Prisoner Following Reported Scuffle With Police

28-year-old Michael Henry Robinson of Falls Avenue in Valdese was arrested Saturday (March 16) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony malicious conduct by a prisoner along with single misdemeanor counts of assault on a governmental officer and intoxicated or disruptive behavior, plus three misdemeanor counts of resist, delay or obstruct a public officer. Another individual was arrested on a misdemeanor charge in this case.

Shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday (March 16), officers with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a business on Sanford Drive due to a report of an intoxicated individual. During the investigation, officers came into contact with Michael Henry Robinson. According to police reports, while in custody, Robinson began to resist officers by kicking them in the face while on the ground. Police say he then feloniously assaulted an officer by spitting in his face.

Robinson was brought to UNC Health Blue Ridge in Morganton. Following his release he was taken into custody and incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under $25,000 secured bond. He remained in jail as of earlier today (March 18), a District Court appearance was scheduled today.
