40-year-old Trone Lamon Francis of Perry Street in Morganton was arrested Friday (September 25) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony counts of trafficking cocaine, and trafficking heroin. Francis is also charged with speeding to elude arrest, failure to heed for a light and siren, driving left of center, reckless driving, and failure to stop for a red light.
On Friday, just before 2 p.m., Morganton Public Safety patrol units attempted to stop a silver Ford Fusion on Carolina Street after reportedly seeing a hand to hand drug transaction from the driver of the vehicle. After the patrol vehicle activated its emergency lights and siren the vehicle fled down Hogan Street towards East Fleming Drive.
The vehicle then made a right turn traveling towards South Sterling Street. The vehicle then fled down South Sterling and made a left turn onto Bethel Road. It then made a left turn on Forest Street and made a turn onto Perry Street where the vehicle stopped in front of 113 Perry Street. The driver then fled on foot towards the back of 113 Perry Street.
The driver was captured in the back yard and taken into custody. He was identified as Trone Lamon Francis. Police reports say Francis threw a black bag in the back yard of the home as he was running. The bag contained a set of digital scales along with several bags of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, heroin, and some unknown tablets.
Narcotics Investigators with the Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to the scene to process the evidence and will be handling the investigation. The vehicle was seized as a result of the Run and Done law. Francis was placed into the Burke County Jail under $105,000 bond. He is no longer listed as an inmate in Burke County. Francis was scheduled to appear in District Court Monday (September 28), another District Court date is scheduled for October 19.
