Man Charged In Large Scale Embezzlement Scheme

38-year-old Joseph Gilbert Gallitz, Jr. Of Ashmore Circle in Troutman was arrested Monday (August 14) by Iredell County Sheriff’s Officers. He’s charged with five felony counts apiece of embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense.

In early 2023, it was reported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office that an employee at a local business was involved in large-scale embezzlement scheme. The case was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Economic Crime Unit.

During the investigation, the unit, with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, obtained records from the business. The records showed that an employee, Joseph Gilbert Gallitz, Jr., had embezzled and fraudulently obtained over $595,000 from the business over a five-year period beginning in 2018.

Three counts of each of the charges filed against Gallitz were upgraded to Class C felonies due to the fact that the amount allegedly stolen was greater than $100,000.

On Monday, warrants were obtained on Gallitz and he was arrested at his residence. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was jailed under a $275,000 secured bond. Gallitz was not listed as an inmate as of earlier today (August 17). A District Court date is set for September 5.
