Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Shooting

43-year-old James Adrian Griffin, Jr. of Statesville was arrested Friday (March 15) by U.S. Marshals. He’s charged with felony counts of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges were filed following an incident in Statesville last Wednesday. Statesville Police say 47-year-old Tasheka Reid Aleryani was pronounced deceased approximately 12 hours after she was allegedly shot by Griffin. Griffin and Aleryani were involved in an altercation inside a residence in the 1900 block of Gay Street. Griffin was injured during the incident and was hospitalized. Griffin is a felon as a result of multiple convictions. According to the North Carolina Department Of Adult Correction Offender Public Information website, Griffin has a list of convictions dating back to July, 2000. The cases involve felony and misdemeanor charges and the convictions were in Iredell and Catawba Counties. The most recent conviction was in August of 2016 in Iredell County for felony possession of schedule II controlled substance.

Griffin was arrested Friday after his discharge from Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston Salem. Griffin was incarcerated without bond in the Iredell County Detention Center. A District Court appearance was scheduled today (March 18).
