Man Charged In Connection To Fatal Crash

29-year-old Colin Brett Matthews of Sugar Mountain, N.C. was arrested by Boone Police Officers. He’s charged with driving while impaired in connection to a fatal crash last week in Boone.

Last Thursday (April 14), shortly before 5 p.m., Boone Police, Boone Fire and Watauga Medics responded to a motor vehicle crash involving three passenger cars and two motorcycles on N.C. Highway 105 in the vicinity of the intersection with Snaggy Mountain Boulevard. One of the motorcycle riders was killed in the crash.

43-year-old Nicholas Thomas Dewinkeleer of West End, North Carolina, died at Watauga Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained during the crash. Matthews was arrested and charged and received a $100,000 secured bond. A District Court date is scheduled for May 20. The Boone Police Department is continuing to investigate.
