53-year-old Randall Lane Shropshire of Lincolnton was arrested Saturday (July 1) on a charge filed in Lincoln County. He’s charged with felony attempted first-degree murder. Shropshire was arrested by authorities in Tennessee.
He’s charged in connection to an incident that occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. Friday (June 30) on U.S. 321 in Lincoln County. The Lincoln County Communications Center was contacted by motorist who told them that a woman had been pushed out of a vehicle. The woman, who was identified as the suspect’s wife, was transported by ambulance to the hospital in serious condition. Police reports say that the suspect shot the woman before pushing her from the vehicle.
Detectives closed a portion of Highway 321 for a period of time during the crime scene investigation. Officers began a search for a person of interest, Randall Lane Shropshire. Early Saturday, Shropshire’s phone pinged in Knox County, Tennessee. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the location and found the vehicle the suspect was driving.
Officers checked the area and found Shropshire at a nearby motel where he had barricaded himself in his room. Police negotiated with the suspect and took him into custody without incident. He was incarcerated in the Knox County, Tennessee Jail following the arrest. Shropshire remained in that facility as of earlier this morning without bond, he was awaiting an extradition hearing.
