A 39-year-old Hiddenite man is facing multiple charges after allegedly refusing to stop for Taylorsville Police and struggling with officers during his arrest Sunday night.

According to the Taylorsville Police Department, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle at approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday (June 28) after it was seen nearly colliding with another vehicle. Police say the driver failed to stop after emergency lights and sirens were activated, continued down the roadway, then made a U-turn in an apparent attempt to leave the area.

A second officer positioned a patrol vehicle to block the suspect’s path. Police say the driver refused repeated lawful commands to exit the vehicle, leading to a physical struggle. During the incident, officers deployed a TASER before taking the suspect into custody.

The driver was identified as 39-year-old Kenneth Baity of Hiddenite. He was charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failure to heed lights and siren, and resisting a public officer.

Baity was placed in the Alexander County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond. Taylorsville Police thanked the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance during the incident.
