A Newton man is facing charges following an incident in Hildebran. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded Wednesday (September 9) to Cubbard Express on Old N-C 10 after receiving reports of a man attempting to get into multiple vehicles and climbing on vehicles in the parking lot and at a nearby church.

Deputies identified the man as 23-year-old Shydarieune Carlos McCullough. Authorities say McCullough initially failed to comply with commands but was eventually handcuffed. Investigators say he later resisted while being placed into a patrol vehicle.

McCullough was taken to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where authorities say he assaulted a deputy. He is charged with misdemeanor assault on a government official, resisting a public officer and disorderly conduct. McCullough was given a five-thousand-dollar secured bond. His court date is October 15.
