Man Becomes Violent At Burke Home, Rams Head Through Aquarium, Investigation Underway

An incident during which an individual became violent at a Burke County home is under investigation. According to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office,  Thursday (April 15) at 8:15 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to an address on Mineral Springs Mountain Road in Valdese. The deputies were met by two juveniles outside and an adult in the residence who told them that a person known to them was bleeding, fighting with the adult’s son, and destroying their home.

Deputies found the person in the home with a large laceration to his arm and forehead and requested that EMS respond with emergency traffic. The individual became very aggressive and was trying to rip off his clothes and bandages, fight with, and bite, the EMS crew and a deputy. The medical crew and officers finally got the man to the EMS truck and he was subsequently flown to a medical trauma facility.

Deputies were told that the man had been acting strangely all day. He had beat on, punched out the window of, and broken the door frame of the victim’s front door. Unable to gain entry through the door, the man reportedly jumped through a window into the home, grabbed an aquarium, and rammed his head through it.

After making the scene safe, two of the deputies began the Sheriff’s Office blood exposure protocol. The investigation will continue regarding criminal charges.
