Man Awaiting Sentencing in Lincoln County Dies by Hanging

A man who was in the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detention Center awaiting sentencing died by hanging last night (October 7). The deceased is 61-year-old Randy Lee Rinck, Sr.

The incident was discovered by detention center personnel at approximately 11:30 Thursday night while they were collecting laundry from the prisoners. Mr. Rinck was found unresponsive in his cell. Lincoln County E.M.S. was dispatched to the scene and attempted lifesaving procedures, but they were unable to revive Mr. Rinck.

In September, Mr. Rinck was found guilty of 2nd-degree forcible sexual offense and assault with a deadly weapon. He was arrested on September 28 of this year in Richmond County after he failed to return to Lincoln County Superior Court following the first day of his trial. He was returned to Lincoln County the same day.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation.
