Man Arrested On Meth Charge Following Traffic Stop In Burke County

49-year-old James Arthur Helms of Summers Road in Morganton was arrested Monday (September 5) by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He’s charged with felony possession of methamphetamine. In addition, Helms is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while impaired along with counts of driving while license revoked for DWI, stoplight violation, and brake light violation.

Helms was arrested following a traffic stop late Monday night. According to Morganton Public Safety reports, an officer conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 40 East shortly after 11 p.m. During the traffic stop, Helms was arrested. Public Safety records show that eleven grams of methamphetamine were seized during the arrest.

Helms was brought to the Burke County Jail under $6,000 secured bond. He is not listed as an inmate in Burke County today (September 7). District Court appearances are scheduled for Thursday (September 8) and September 26 in Morganton.
