Major Damage Reported To Home In Hickory House Fire

A home sustained heavy damage and two pets were killed in a fire Thursday (October 20) in Hickory. Shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, Hickory firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire located in the area of 534 25th Avenue NW. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy smoke and fire coming from the split-level residence. It was confirmed that occupants were out of the burning residence and the fire was brought under control by 5:37 p.m.

The Hickory Fire Department responded with three engines, one ladder, one rescue truck, and two command units. Catawba County EMS and the Red Cross also responded to the incident. No human injuries were reported; but two pets did not survive the fire. Damages to the house are considered to be major. The Catawba County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the incident and determined the fire cause to be accidental.
