Maiden Woman Killed in Saturday Night Motorcycle Crash

50-year-old Angela Sigmon Wesson of Maiden was killed in a motorcycle accident late Saturday night (May 22). At about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, the N.C. State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene in Catawba County on Saint James Church Road, near Jack Whitener Road. A 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle was northbound on Saint James Church Road when it crossed the centerline, ran off the road to the left, collided with a utility service box, and overturned.

The driver, 57-year-old Jeffrey Dean Martin of Newton sustained minor injuries. Ms. Wesson, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, passed away at the scene.

Alcohol impairment is suspected as a factor in the crash. Results of a blood test are pending. Martin has been charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, and reckless driving.
