Christopher Wray of Maiden is the first winner of the $250,000 top prize in the new 20X The Cash game. Wray said he was stopping to get gas at the Quick Trip on North Chester Street in Gastonia when he found a penny, heads up, on the ground. Wray decided to buy the lottery ticket on his way out of the store and used the penny to scratch it off.
Wray claimed his prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $176,876. The 20X The Cash game launched this month with 10 top prizes of $250,000. Nine top prizes remained to be won.
